Victory For Germany And Accomplishment For England



England’s longing desire of gaining historic major trophy trampled as Germany won European champions in Helsinki. Twice England fought back but German team established as powerful in ground and focused in front of goal.

German opener Birgit Prinz and Inka Grings both hits their goals when Kelly Smith gave their last hope with a fine strike. Germans had preplanned victory celebrations there was a strong streak of confidence based on the long period of success. For England, it was like climbing a huge mountain defending world champion Germany they defeated England for 17th time in their last 19 meetings. Eniola Aluka was a real threat in opening exchange even White was unable to prevent the opening goal from Germany’s striker. English women looked upset when Prinz picked up kelly smiththe ball after a smart pull back from Grings later flaming the ball to net. Melanie Behringer in the middle smashed into the top corner from 40 yards No one had beaten the world champion s in the final since1993. England coach Hope Powell said we played well in patches but credit to Germany was very clinical; however, the score line is unacceptable 6-2. The defeat should not take away England accomplishment of getting into first final in 25 years.
